  About

Dr. Srinivasa Subramaniam holds a tenured position as an Associate Professor of Chemistry/Biochemistry in the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute (SNBI) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Subramaniam obtained his M.Sc. in Chemistry/Biochemistry from Central College, Bengaluru University, India, followed by a PhD summa cum laude in Natural Science from the University of Heidelberg, where he worked together with Dr. Klaus Unsicker on growth factor signaling related to neuronal survival and death. He subsequently pursued postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine under Dr. Solomon Snyder, focusing on neuronal vulnerability and death mechanisms in neurodegenerative disorders. The research above identified regulators facilitating striatal neuronal death in Huntington's disease and brain-specific signaling that governs aberrant movements in Parkinson's disease. In the past 12 years, Subramaniam has identified molecular and cellular alterations in brain-specific proteins that lead to abnormal motor, cognitive, and mental dysfunctions in neurological diseases.

Dr. Subramaniam's findings have garnered several accolades, culminating in his election as a Florida Consortium on the Neurobiology of Cognition (FCNC) member. He is a member of the review committee for the National Institute of Health (NIH) and various international funding agencies, including the French National Research Agency and the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology. Subramaniam has mentored numerous students and postdoctoral researchers, authored around 50 original research articles, and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical and Translational Research and Biology journals.  Subramaniam trained in Taekwondo and was a state champion in the Taekwondo Sparring Championships in India; his other interests are sketching, singing, running, and composing poetry.
